When and How Far Boats Run
Swordfish trips out of Port Mansfield run 14 and 24 hours offshore. They’re described by length rather than by a named ground. The boat leaves the channel, clears the jetties and runs well past the nearshore structure.
For the wider picture, see our write-up on Gulf of Mexico swordfishing (see also the Gulf of Mexico fishing guide). For everything local to Port Mansfield, start with the trip formats below.
Trip Lengths: 14 and 24 Hours

The 14 hour and 24 hour trips set the scale of the run. Neither is a nearshore outing, and the nearshore structure is not the destination.
The two formats call for different planning:
- Fuel: Carry enough for the round trip plus a reserve.
- Crew rest: The longer trip needs a watch rotation and rested hands for the run home.
- Darkness: The 24 hour format has you running and fishing after dark.
Before leaving the dock, check wind, wave height and wave period in the official National Weather Service marine forecast, and compare the numbers with your boat’s limits and your own.
Leaving the Jetties
The Mansfield jetties mark the channel entrance, and every offshore run starts there.

Overnight Trips
